Field tests launched at the former Municipal Warehouses in Riccione
Over the past few weeks, field tests have been conducted as part of the operational remediation plan developed by Montana for the environmental restoration of the former Municipal Warehouses site in Riccione. The intervention targets the unsaturated soil and groundwater, both affected by residual hydrocarbon contamination related to the decommissioning of the fuel station previously operating on the site.
During the design phase, two remediation technologies were identified as potentially suitable for the site conditions, both widely used for the treatment of hydrocarbon-contaminated sites: Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) and Multiphase Extraction (MPE). The pilot tests, conducted in collaboration with Studio Prealpino di Geologia, will enable the evaluation of the two technologies and help identify the solution best suited to the site. The results will now be analysed in detail and will provide the basis for the design of the full-scale remediation system.
Montana managed the entire process, from the design to the construction of the pilot test field and the execution of the field trials. The pilot plant used during the tests was supplied by Züblin.
This intervention represents a concrete step toward the environmental recovery of a strategic area of the city. Its redevelopment will enable the creation of new social, cultural, and community service spaces.
