Former Acna Site in Piacenza: from environmental liability to a restored urban asset
With the certification issued by ARPAE, the remediation of the former Acna site in Piacenza has been formally completed. This long-awaited, technically complex intervention marks a tangible step forward in the city’s urban regeneration process.
For Montana, this project involved leading a technically complex intervention with high environmental sensitivity and strong public relevance. Operating within a temporary joint venture (ATI) alongside AP Srl and Ing. Lerro, the team was responsible for the feasibility and detailed design stages, followed by construction management and HSE coordination. The work progressed through a structured, phased approach, driven by a clear objective: to reinstate environmental safety at a site long affected by contamination, while establishing the conditions for its future regeneration.
Today, the certified completion represents more than the closure of a remediation project; it marks the beginning of a broader urban transformation. The 38,000 sqm site is set to host a new city-scale development, including over 30,000 sqm of public green space, a tree-lined parking area, upgraded access roads, pedestrian and cycling paths, and supporting urban amenities.
The project also stands out as a best practice case in the use of PNRR funding, fully compliant with schedule targets. Notably, the entire process, from feasibility design through to final commissioning, was completed in under two years, an exceptional timeframe within the Italian regulatory context, made possible by effective collaboration among technical teams and public authorities.
This achievement reflects the core value of our work: turning environmental complexity into tangible opportunities for sustainable territorial development.
