Former Snia Site in Cesano Maderno: Preliminary Remediation Activities Underway in Groane Park
The initiation of a remediation project goes well beyond the opening of a construction site; it marks the start of a structured process aimed at restoring environmental functionality to an area that has long represented a critical issue for the surrounding territory.
This is the case of the former Snia site in Cesano Maderno, an “orphan” site extending over more than 20 hectares within Groane Park, currently subject to a comprehensive intervention involving remediation, environmental restoration, and site safety measures.
At this stage, preliminary activities are in progress to support the implementation of the main works. These include the preparation of site access routes, vegetation clearance within the affected areas, and the execution of initial investigations required for waste characterisation. This phase is technically essential, as the management of a site of such complexity requires a rigorous methodological approach, effective coordination among stakeholders, and continuous monitoring throughout all phases of the intervention.
Montana is engaged in the project in the role of Works Supervision, with responsibility for overseeing the progress of activities and ensuring the proper execution of this strategic environmental recovery programme. A joint site inspection was recently conducted with representatives of the contractor consortium responsible for the execution of the works, along with municipal technical staff.
The intervention is also significant from a public perspective: remediation of an “orphan” site entails addressing environmental contamination in the absence of a liable party. Operating in such complex contexts enables a concrete contribution to environmental regeneration processes, restoring value to the area from environmental, territorial, and socio-economic standpoints.
